What to Wear for Your Fall Photoshoot
1. Stick to a Coordinated Color Palette - Think earthy, neutral, and warm tones:
Mustard, rust, cream, beige, olive, navy, or burgundy.
Avoid everyone wearing the exact same color. Instead, mix and match shades that complement each other.
💡 Pro Tip: Lay your family’s outfits on the bed together before the shoot — this helps you see how the colors flow as a group. If you have booked a fall session with me, feel free to text me photos of your outfits and ask questions. I am happy to help!
2. Add Layers & Textures - Fall is all about cozy details. Layers and textures not only keep you warm but also add depth to your photos.
Chunky sweaters, cardigans, scarves, or vests.
Fabrics like knits, denim, corduroy, flannel, or lace photograph beautifully.
3. Keep Patterns Simple - Small, subtle patterns (plaids, florals, stripes) are perfect in moderation. Just avoid anything too loud or with large logos, which can distract from the faces in your photos. Please avoid very thin stripes, thick stripes are better, but keep them neutral.
4. Don’t Forget Footwear - Shoes will show in your photos! Stick with clean boots, loafers, or simple flats. Avoid bright sneakers unless that’s part of your family’s style.
5. Think Comfort + Confidence - If you feel comfortable, you’ll look comfortable. Choose outfits that fit well and allow you to move easily — especially important if you’ll be chasing little ones.
6. Align your style and look to the location of the photo session - For example, if the photos will be taken at the beach, choose clothing that is relaxed and consider going barefoot. It’s not a great idea to wear your Sunday best to the beach, opt for a casual look with a “beauty” vibe. If you want a more formal look, we can choose a location that is a little fancy, or urban.

How to Prep for Your Session
1. Rest & Relax - Get a good night’s sleep before your session (yes, even for the adults!). Well-rested faces look brighter and more natural.
2. Eat Beforehand - Hungry kids (and parents) can make photos stressful. Have a light meal or snack before your session, and bring small, mess-free treats if needed.
3. Plan Ahead - Lay out outfits, accessories, and shoes the night before. This saves you from scrambling the morning of the shoot.
4. Pack a “Photoshoot Bag”
Bring along:
Tissues/wipes
Hairbrush or comb
Lip balm
Extra snacks for kids
A backup outfit for toddlers
A few snack for the kids, incase they get hungry
Hair gel, or hair spray
5. Arrive a Few Minutes Early - Give yourself time to settle in, adjust outfits, and take a deep breath. A calm start makes all the difference in creating relaxed, natural photos.
6. Consider A Treat for Your Kids After The Session - maybe some time to play at the park, or their favorite treat. Letting your kids know this before the session can make things go more smoothly, depending on their age.

Remember, the best photos aren’t just about what you’re wearing, they’re about the moments you create together. Dress in outfits that make you feel like you, prepare ahead of time, and most importantly, have fun with your loved ones.
Your fall photoshoot should feel like an experience, not just a picture-taking event. With the right prep and cozy autumn style, you’ll have beautiful memories to look back on for years to come.
